Expanding from their original vision, Maker’s Brew Café on Main St in Scranton has added a restaurant to the original Coffee Shop. Plans are to serve breakfast and lunch beginning this week.
The Coffee Shop / Cafe will be open Monday-Friday from 7 am to 2 pm. They are closed on Saturday and Sunday but owners Mike and Annette Winger are considering offering a Sunday brunch once a month.
“The community has really accepted the coffee shop,” said Mike Winger who with his wife, Annette, owns and remodeled the building which formerly housed the Scranton Grocery Store. “It’s amazing to me. It’s been very positive. I’ve had people come up and thank me. Some of them have been very emotional about it. That has been really cool.”
Mary and Joshua Brady and their children will operate the business. They will serve basic, home-cooked meals. To begin with, they are planning a simple menu with traditional features.
There will be a daily special which may include roast beef, burgers, meatloaf, tacos, chili dogs and more. Sides of macaroni or potato salad, macaroni and cheese, mashed potatoes and gravy as well as chips will be available.
“We’re anxious to get started,” shared Joshua.
They have received a shipment of grain and will be making some of their own bread products.
There is a white panel van that has been restored which is available for catering. The Wingers and Bradys are working with Scranton Manufacturing / New Way officials with the hope to serve lunch at the factory.
They are developing an app for smart phones which will allow people to order their meals ahead of their arrival.
There is ample seating room in the building but they welcome to-go orders also with curbside delivery available. Call 712-652-3773 to place your order.
Mary wants to serve healthy and nutritious food. There will be vegetables as side dishes, too. She’s working on gluten free or reduced gluten meals. Organic foods are also under consideration.
For people with mobility problems, a handicapped entrance is available in the alley.
Since the Coffee Shop opened in February, the customers have put together several challenging jigsaw puzzles. There’s a built-in cribbage board that has been a popular feature.
The Coffee Shop will continue as in the past, serving brews of all kinds. They feature some sweet treats as well.
“We want it to be a comfortable and welcoming place for the community,” stressed Joshua and Mary Brady.
